El argentino José Pekerman, flamante entrenador de Colombia, llegó este martes a Bogotá, donde iniciará la preparación para el partido amistoso que disputarán los 'cafeteros' contra la selección de México el 29 de febrero próximo en el estadio estadounidense Sun Life de Miami.
"Un saludo a todos, estoy muy contento de nuevo de estar acá", dijo el timonel cuando llegó al aeropuerto Eldorado de la capital colombiana acompañado de su preparador físico, Eduardo Urtasún, y su secretario técnico, Gabriel Wainer.
Pekerman, de 62 años, fue presentado oficialmente como director técnico el pasado 18 de enero en Bogotá por la Federación Colombiana de Fútbol (FCF), la cual le confió la tarea de clasificar a la selección al Mundial de Brasil-2014, 16 años después de su última participación en este torneo, en Francia-1998.
El argentino sucedió al colombiano Leonel Álvarez, cesado del cargo en diciembre pasado tras los resultados en la primera fase de las eliminatorias sudamericanas para la Copa del Mundo.
Colombia, entre octubre y noviembre, ganó 2-1 a Bolivia, empató 1-1 con Venezuela y perdió ante 1-2 Argentina, los dos últimos partidos en calidad de local en Barranquilla (norte).
Disputadas las cuatro primeras fechas del premundial, Uruguay, Argentina y Venezuela son líderes con siete puntos, seguidas por Ecuador y Chile (6), mientras que Colombia está sexta junto a Paraguay (4).
Pekerman, quien firmó contrato con la FCF hasta agosto de 2014, debutará como entrenador de los 'cafeteros' en el partido amistoso ante México, para luego continuar el camino de las eliminatorias sudamericanas, el 2 de junio, contra Perú, por la quinta fecha.
